5 Types of Friends Who Make Every Kenyan Road Trip Memorable

Let's be honest, the destination is only half the adventure. Whether you're heading to a music festival, a horse racing event, a food market, or simply escaping the city for the weekend, it's the people in the car who turn a good trip into a great one. Every Kenyan road trip has its own cast of characters. You probably know them well, and if you don't... you might just be one of them.

1. The Planner

Every friend group has that one person who treats a weekend getaway like a military operation. The itinerary? Shared. Departure time? Sent three times. Fuel contributions? Already calculated.

They've even checked the weather, mapped out the route, and know exactly where everyone is meeting. Without them, the trip would probably still be stuck in the group chat.

2. The DJ

This person believes they were born to control the playlist. One minute you're singing along to timeless Kenyan classics. The next, it'sAmapiano, Afrobeats, Gengetone, old-school R&B, and somehow, a random country song nobody remembers adding. Everyone complains about the playlist at some point, but nobody actually volunteers to take over. By the end of the trip, you've discovered at least three new favourite songs.

3. The snack minister

They always arrive carrying what they describe as "just a few snacks." A few snacks somehow turn into crisps, biscuits, mabuyu, groundnuts, sweets, juice, chewing gum, and enough treats to feed the whole car. Nobody asked them to bring anything, but everybody ends up grateful they did.

4. The Photographer

"Wait, don't move."

Those three words usually mean another five minutes before anyone gets back in the car. They know where the best viewpoints are, somehow find perfect lighting even at midday, and insist on taking "one more photo" until everyone finally gets the shot. A few days later, they become everyone's favourite person when the Google photos link lands in the group chat.

5. The Spontaneous One

They're the reason every road trip has a story. They're the first to suggest stopping at a roadside market, taking the scenic route, or checking out an event happening just a few kilometres away. Sometimes the best moments aren't part of the original plan. They're the unexpected detours, the hidden gems, and the experiences you almost drove past.

The Best Trips Are Shared

Road trips aren't really about how many kilometres you cover. They're about the conversations that get louder as the journey goes on. The playlists everyone pretends not to like. The shared snacks. The unexpected stops. The inside jokes that somehow survive long after the weekend is over.

The best part is, there's always another adventure waiting. Maybe it's a concert you've been talking about for months, a horse racing event you've never experienced, or a festival that's worth gathering the crew

Wherever the road leads next, Ticketsasa helps you discover experiences worth travelling for. Now there's just one important question left. Which friend are you?
