Overview

Amboseli Sopa Lodge is set within 200 acres of mature wooded gardens at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, approximately 250 kilometers southeast of Nairobi. Positioned just a 20-minute drive from the Kimana Gate of Amboseli National Park, the lodge enjoys spectacular views of the snowcapped mountain and is surrounded by indigenous trees and gardens frequented by monkeys, mongooses, squirrels, duikers, occasional gazelles, and even the odd leopard.

Accommodation consists of 83 traditional African style cottages scattered across the property. Rooms include 40 with two queen beds, six of which connect for families, 21 with a king bed including two that are wheelchair accessible and one honeymoon suite, 22 with one queen bed, and one presidential suite with two bedrooms, a private lounge, kitchenette, and expansive verandah. All rooms feature en suite bathrooms, mosquito nets, handcrafted local decor, and verandas overlooking the gardens or Kilimanjaro.

Dining is offered in the thatched Kibo Restaurant, featuring a round structure arranged around a central fireplace and vaulted windows affording mountain views. Outdoor buffet dining is available at Mawenzi Terrace shaded by an acacia tree, complete with barbecue stations. There are three themed bars: Mawenzi Bar split by a central fireplace and decorated with Maasai artifacts, Hemingway Bar perched atop boulders with 360-degree views and wildlife visiting nightly feeding spots, and a pool bar housed in a rondavel style structure beside the swimming pool.

Facilities include a freshwater swimming pool for adults and children, a boutique gift shop, open-air Maasai craft market, communal TV lounge, conference rooms able to host up to 110 people in theatre style, and WiFi available in public areas. The lodge strives to blend rustic charm with modern comforts, offering family-friendly service and affordability with full board rates.

Guests can participate in a range of activities such as safari game drives in Amboseli National Park, guided nature or bird walks, bush or barbecue dining on request, cultural visits to Maasai villages, balloon safaris, and relaxation by the pool under the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Rustic, well spaced cottages meander through the vast expanse of Amboseli Sopa's mature gardens and house 83 guest rooms.
All guestrooms are brightly decorated with Maasai themed wall murals, and each room has been purpose built to contain either one or two queen sized beds as well as a veranda.
The hotel also has a luxuriously appointed, extremely spacious, two bedroom Presidential suite with a private dining room and an attached kitchenette, and also with a huge lounge and a quite simply vast veranda.

Dining:

The Kibo restaurant has a small but attractive recessed bar and there is also an outdoor terrace from where the views of Kilimanjaro are quite simply majestic. Just beyond this there is a camp fire used for sundowners and after dinner drinks, and to one side of this there is a large, freeform fishpond.
The hotel also features 3 bars and the Mawenzi Terrace, an outdoor dining area set beside the Mawenzi Bar and named after Kilimanjaro’s second highest peak.
The terrace is shaded by an enormous Acacia tree whose branches also spread out over the long curve of a natural stone-topped buffet table and its two recessed bar-b-cue grills.

Activities:While the park conserves over six hundred breeding species of birds as well a host of rare and wonderful wildlife, this is also home to the Maasai people, perhaps the world’s most renowned African tribe. Enjoy nature walks, bird watching, board games, traditional dances and sundowners while at the lodge. If you need to cool off, then a swim at the hotel's pool will do the trick.
